Israel Dairy Board Research – Fund (DBRF), policy and procedures
The goal of the Dairy Board Research Fund:
To support original research pertaining to the animals as well as the consumers, on topics relating to the wellbeing and production of dairy and beef cattle, goats and sheep.
The nature of the supported research projects are applied research, focusing mainly on the major problems unique to the area of:
Economics
Animal Health and Welfare
Reproduction and Fertility
Nutrition
Husbandry
Udder Health and Milk Quality
Unique problems connected to Small Ruminants
Budget:
Annual budget is approximately 3,500,000 NIS, enough to support about 50 research projects per year.
Procedures for receiving research grants:
The research senior steering committee that governs the Dairy Board research grants, issues annually a call for proposals with an emphasis on specified topics.
Despite the fact that the majority of the research topics are proposed by the scientists, occasionally some topics can be initiated by the research steering committee.
DBRF Administration Committee
The committee is comprised of 6 members: the fund manager (Israel Dairy Board) representatives of the dairy milk producers (1) the milk industry (1) scientists (2) governmental extension services (1) .
Research Steering Committee
The committee is comprised of 10 members representing the dairy milk producers and the milk industry (2) Research institutions (3) governmental extension services/veterinarians related to the topic under discussion (4) and the Israel Dairy Board (1).
