Established prior to Israeli independence in 1948, the Sheep & Goats Breeders Association is an umbrella organization for 200 sheep and goat farms located throughout Israel. Combined, these enterprises produce an annual yield of 10.5 million liters of sheep’s milk and 4.5 million liters of goat’s milk.
In addition to marketing and distributing milk across the country, the Sheep & Goats Breeders Association promotes domestic product awareness. In 1998 the association expanded its horizons by exporting its unique line of cheeses – “Pastures of Eden” – to the U.S.
“Pastures of Eden” is a Balkan style Feta cheese made from 100% sheep’s milk. Recipient of the 2004 “Best Taste Award” granted by the Quality Institute International (American Tasting Institute, American Culinary Institute), it stands out because of its unique taste, form and uses, coupled with the appearance of its hi-tech packaging that guarantees quick opening and sealing capabilities. A mildly salty Feta, it lets consumers benefit from the distinct taste of a Mediterranean tradition. Hailed as better than French and Greek Feta in both taste and texture, “Pastures of Eden” can be served as an appetizer, put on pasta, in salads, Middle Eastern pizzas and Balkan dishes, and even be used as a pastry filling.
